| Welcome to my collection of photos from around the British Rail Network and Preserved Railways in the 1980's (with just a few in the early 1990's). Hailing from a family of railway enthusiasts, my first major railway recollection is the Stockton & Darlington 150th Calvalcade in 1975, but I became a railway enthusiast in my own right in about 1980. My first love has always been the photography side of the hobby, and collecting numbers and "haulage bashing" were mostly just a means to an end supporting the photography. As you may be able to tell from the image dates, I lost interest in the railways at about the end of 1986 when I discovered other pursuits, mostly involving ladies, alcohol and sport, in no particular order, though you will see, however, I still did take the occasional photo of a railway scene into the early 1990's. My main interest has always been in diesel traction with my favourite loco class being the Class 50 diesel electrics, even though I only got to see them at fairly irregular intervals. I have always appreciated the other forms of traction too, and you will see a fair smattering of steam and electric traction in the galleries too. I apologise for the fact that there are no times, dates or even loco identities on many of the photographs, however, rather sadly, over the intevening two decades, my spotting and photting logs have long since been consigned to some landfill. In fact I'm probably quite lucky that any of these photographs have survived at all, especially considering that when I rediscovered my love of all things to do with railways in about 2003, I was living 12,000 miles away. Just finding and getting the images back has taken more effort and negotiation than a Middle East cease fire, but finally, here they are. For anyone interested, some of the early stuff is from a dodgy, but seriously cherished, little 110. I then moved on to an Olympus Trip 35mm before graduating to a Miranda SLR for some of the later shots. The images were recorded on a variety of Kodak and Fuji print films and most were developed by Bonus Print and the like. They've been scanned on a Canoscan 9950F and manipulated in Photoshop (mostly some judiscious cropping and adjustments to get rid of any colour casts, though a few have had a little artistic work applied too!! The ones that have are marked as such for the purists out there). |

 | 23rd May 2007 | Diesel and Electric Traction in the 1980's
An initial selection of images from around the BR network and preserved railways in the 1980's (okay, a couple are from the early 1990's). Actually not much Rail Blue yet, but much more to come soon. As I get more images online I will start to set up more specific collections, by region, by class and so on.

 | 2nd Jun 2007 | Scanned from the negatives!!
Having collected together my railway images again, after 20 some years, some of the prints have been lost and others damaged in various ways. Luckily I did always keep the negatives separately and will be getting some reprints done in the future, but, in the mean time, here are some of the "lost" prints scanned in from the negatives using a Canon FS4000.
